.
Today we are going to do a self-audit of our lives. Are you up for the challenge? Yes, this is a bit of a challenge because it’s going to get tedious and time-consuming to track every single thing you do in an entire day, but this is what’s necessary in order to get rid of the bad habits in your life and substitute them with good ones.
I know you are a busy, tired mom who is running on empty, but you want to start making some changes in your life for the better. You want to be healthier. You want to be stronger, and you want to lose the baby weight. The only way you can effectively get to the point of feeling good in your own skin is by making some improvements in your lifestyle and setting some healthy habits in place.
But before you do that, you need to get rid of the bad habits. Today we are diving deep into your daily routines and your everyday habits to see where you are spending your time. Let’s find out what bad habits tend to creep in to your everyday life. Get out a piece of paper and a pen and let’s start.
What you need for a self-audit:
In order to do a self-audit of your daily life, you need a piece of paper and a pen. You may want to keep your phone nearby to check the time if you want to write down the times. What’s most important is what you are doing, not when you are doing it.
Pick a typical day to track your life, a day that is relatively normal for you. Keep your paper nearby, maybe in your pocket or in the middle of your house so you can write down everything you are doing.
What you want to look out for:
Write down all the normal daily things like waking up, going to the bathroom, washing hands, brushing hair, and so on.
But you also want to write down the habits that you tend to do without thinking, such as picking up the phone to look at a new notification that came in, going to the door when you hear a loud screech down your street, cleaning up the big mess made after your baby had a dirty diaper.
Write down every time you opened the fridge up to look for something to eat.
And don’t forget to write down every time you scroll on social media.
Become Self Aware:
Once you have written down your entire day and everything you did for that day, you are going to comb through the entire list and look for behaviors that are good and behaviors that are bad. But also keep in mind that some of the behaviors are neutral, like going to the bathroom.
James Clear states in his book Atomic Habits: “We are so used to doing what we have always done that we don’t stop to question if what we are doing is right at all.” This audit slows down our thinking to help us process whether our choices are good or bad. Are the choices you are making helping you to achieve good habits or are they going in the direction of sustaining your bad habits?
Many of our failures are due to a lack of self awareness, and this is our time to become self aware.
Classify Good vs. Bad Habits in Your Self-Audit
The easiest way to audit your list is by writing a “+” symbol in green next to the habits that are good and write a “-” symbol that is red next to the habits that are bad. You can use a black park and write an equal next to the natural tasks that you did.
Go one step further and take all the good habits you marked with a plus sign and categorize them. Take note of the habits that are good and effective! These are the habits that will help you to achieve the benefit that you are hoping to achieve. So if you are wanting to have a fit body, circle in a bright pink marker that habit and make it stand out.
Key Tips To Remember During Your Audit
Keep this in mind when categorizing your self-audit:
All the positive habits will have a positive outcome and all the negative habits will have a negative outcome.
Will this behavior help me be the type of person that I want to be?
Does this behavior cast a vote to get me to be the person of my desired identity?
Does this behavior help me be the fit mom I want to be?
The goal is to recognize what’s going on in your current lifestyle. Don’t be too hard on yourself. And there is no need to put blame on any person or on yourself for the way that you’re living your life. This is just a self-analysis, and this is the first step towards making a change in your habits. The first step to changing bad habits is to be on the lookout for them and becoming self aware.
