Do you ever feel like you are walking in one direction but maybe you should turn around and go the other way? You’re just not sure which direction to go?
On occasion I have had those thoughts with the blog. This weekend I was thinking about the blog and starting to analyze how it’s been going so far since it’s been about a month and a half in the running.
I was thinking to myself, well, so far so good, but no major milestones have been made thus far with my goals I had set when the blog launched.
Sometimes I look at other bloggers’ websites and see how many pins they have that have been pinned. “Ah, don’t go there,” I say to myself. It can be discouraging because I am so far from those numbers with my pins.
Seeing all the beautiful pictures on Instagram my friends and other bloggers post can also be discouraging at times. I have a lot to learn when it comes to social media. I’m just not that good quite yet with all the interacting and posting that is involved on those platforms.
Hey, it’s ok! I really have no reason to compare myself to others. When I find myself doing that, I just turn off my phone and stop. STOP all together and move away from those kinds of negative thoughts.
Well, what’s the quote for today you might be wondering about….?
Today’s Motivational Monday Quote is…..
“I am a slow walker but I never walk back.”
–Abraham Lincoln
Short and sweet. I love it! Yeah it might be taking me a while to gain some ground with the blog. But hey, if I keep on trekking and moving forward, I’m bound to reach some of if not all of my goals. It just takes time.
You are probably reading this and thinking “I don’t have a blog, what does this have to do with me?”
Well, there must be something that you’re probably working on for a long time now and it seems like it’s been taking forever to finish. Or maybe you just haven’t seen any traction being made over the past few months or few years.
Some other examples that come to mind is when it comes to working out. You might have been working out for the past 3 months and have only lost 2 lbs. Hey, that’s ok, keep at it. It’s not only about the weight loss but it’s about the new habit that you are engraving into your mind and body.
Yeah, you have been working out for 3 months now and haven’t met your goal weight, but a year from now, your body will be stronger, healthier and your natural habits will be more inclined to make healthy choices opposed to unhealthy lifestyle choices.
It’s hard to look that far ahead, but you know if you keep at it on the same path that you are now, it’s only going to give you positive results. On the contrary, if you give up and stop moving forward, you know you won’t be gaining anything. NEVER WALK BACK!
A scenario that comes to mind for moms is DISCIPLINING!
When does disciplining ever work on the first try? Never. You might have to teach your child over and over and over again to say “Thank You” to someone when someone does something nice to them.
I have had this conversation with my husband many, many times. It goes something like this:
“Honey, why does our daughter never stay in the time out chair when I put her in time out? We have been doing time out for the past two months and she still won’t listen when I tell her to sit in the time out chair. I don’t know what to do. It’s not working Let’s try something else. I keep explaining to her in a simple way. “SIT IN THE CHAIR and DON’T GET UP!” Why doesn’t she just do it?”
Have you been there? Do you feel like you say the same thing over and over to your child and it’s just not clicking? Hey, it’s ok, that’s completely normal. Our little ones just don’t have the mental capacity to do what we ask every time we ask even after we have been over the same thing day after day after day!
Give it time, don’t give up on your disciplining, or whatever parenting tactic you are working on with your children. They won’t grasp the concept on day one. Give it days, even months, before you see even the slightest improvement.
Don’t walk backwards, don’t stop trekking forward. Steadfast persistence and consistency will get you to your parenting goals that you have set for your household.
Keep Smiling,
Dr. Jena Bradley, DPT
Don’t think doing your blog is just for getting pins. Think of it first as helping the readers. You reminded me of hearing tweans trying to get millions of likes. What is most important is writing helpful and useful information and the pins and likes will come : )
Nancy (or should I call you Mom!), Thank you for the words of encouragement! <3
I love this quote from Lincoln because we could use this in pretty much every aspect of our lives!! I love these Motivational Monday posts, I think we all could use more motivation! 🙂
Monica, I am so glad you are enjoying Motivational Monday’s with me!
