Are you a busy mom who doesn’t have time to work out? Today I’m going to be talking about the top five places to do ab exercises without anyone knowing that you’re doing them. So if you are busy, you can sneak these exercises into the cracks of your day.

There’s no reason that you have to lie down on a yoga mat or go to your home gym. You don’t need to stop what you’re doing to do your exercises. You can perform ab exercises in these odd places throughout the day and no one will ever know that you’re working out your core.

Don’t know what I’m talking about? It’s ok! Just stick around and we are going to go over my five favorite places to do ab exercises and no one will ever know about it. Let’s go!

We are talking about the top five places to do exercises without anyone knowing you’re doing them. I love to do sneaky exercises throughout the day. No one knows I’m doing it but I’m doing it in the midst of the chaos of motherhood. Sometimes that’s the only time I have to work out in a day. It’s not a traditional workout in my basement gym, it’s a workout in my everyday movements of mommy life.

I attribute this to one of the main reasons why I have stayed fit my whole life — I am always thinking about fitness throughout my day; I don’t just resort to one style of workouts. I do different things throughout the day to stay strong and to stay healthy.

Sneaky Workout #1: In the Car

The first place that I want you to do your ab exercises is in the car. Your family might be sitting in the car with you. Your friends could be riding in the passenger seat beside you. There is no reason for them to know what you’re doing, but you can just sit back and contract your abs to the beat of the music playing in the car.

I have a entire podcast episode on how to do exercise in the car. It’s a fan favorite, and I highly recommend giving it a try to save you time with your workout routine as a busy mom.

Sneaky Workout #2: In the Kitchen

The second sneaky place I love to do exercises without anyone knowing that I’m doing them is in the kitchen while I’m doing the dishes. Yes, we are doing a lot of twisting and a lot of bending to put the dishes from the sink into the dishwasher. I absolutely love to really focus in on my obliques when I’m doing these twists and turns. You can contract your abs and tighten everything up during the motions you perform while doing the dishes. Pretend like you’re doing oblique twists every time you put one thing from the sink into the dishwasher. This is a great way to stay focused on your abs when you’re just doing daily activities.

Sneaky Workout #3: All throughout the house

The third place I love to do exercise is actually throughout the entire house. Yep! While I’m vacuuming the entire house I’m doing my ab exercises and no one knows I’m doing it. As you take your vacuum forward and backward, to the right to the left, all over the place, sometimes you might go in circles, just remember to constantly contract your abs. Maintain this contraction when pushing and pulling the vacuum in all directions. Draw in your core muscles in and contract everything in your core while you’re twisting and moving. This is just such an easy way to stay toned while you’re doing your daily activities. The vacuum can get sort of heavy when we are pushing it through some thick carpet, so why not put some muscle behind it? Push with your abs rather than pushing solely with your arm.

Sneaky Workout #4: At church

The fourth place I love to do sneaky ab workouts is at church while I am worshiping. I’m standing during worship and I like to do abdominal bracing exercise while I’m standing. I don’t like to just have a saggy pooch or a sagging posture. While I’m standing and worshiping I like to dance a little and I like to strengthen and tighten my core. I’ve been doing it for so long, it’s now just something that I do naturally.

I also perform these ab contractions when I’m sitting in church listening to my pastor preach. Occasionally I’ll add some leg exercises such as quad sets (knee squeezes) which are isometric contractions of the muscles. I will hold these muscle contractions for about 8 to 10 seconds, and then breathe and relax. Usually, I’ll do these without counting the reps and just perform them until I want to stop or until I am fatigued.

Sneaky Workout #5: While I am waiting anywhere in public

The last place I like to do sneak workouts is when I am in public waiting in a line or waiting at a doctor’s office. No one likes to wait in line. It is boring. Rather than stare at my phone, I usually do some exercises while I wait. Whether I am at the doctor’s office, waiting in line at the grocery store, or waiting at the post office, I like to do these ab exercises without anyone knowing I’m doing them. All you have to do is stand there and tighten your inner belly muscles. You can do this sitting too. It will feel so great when you are done. It feels like you are actually doing an ab workout if you concentrate and contract hard enough. Of course, it’s not the same thing as a crunch, but this is just a great start to getting fitness engraved in your mind.

And knowing that you don’t have to get on your yoga mat to exercise is a win for any busy mom. You can do these contractions all day long in all different places.
