Ready to start creating a home gym on a budget? It’s possible. You can have a gym in your home and avoid spending a lot of money. I know a lot of gym equipment can be rather expensive and not affordable for most, but there are cheaper options available to buy that are just as effective if not more effective than an expensive elaborate home gym. Also, if joining a gym is not an option, whether it is due to the cost of monthly membership or the inconvenience of driving back and forth to the gym, then a home gym is a great option for you.

In this article, you’ll get a list of gym equipment and supplies that every home gym should have, the cost of each item and how each piece of equipment will help you achieve your fitness goals. I’m a physical therapist, and I work with hundreds of different gym equipment products. Some I recommend, and some I don’t. In this article I will only be sharing the equipment that I highly recommend for your home. 

Before we get to the list of home gym equipment essentials for those on a budget, let’s make sure that this type of home gym is right for you.

Who Should Create A Home Gym On A Budget?

1. Those who don’t have time to drive to a gym.

 

If you are pressed for time due to long work hours and are finding it hard to devote time to your family and friends, then you may not have time to join a gym. It’s hard to justify the drive time to get a 1 hour workout in. It’s better to stay home and maximize your time with a workout first thing in the morning or late at night before going to bed.

2. Those who don’t have money to justify the gym membership fees.

You are probably here to learn how you can create a gym with as little money possible. Well, if you are looking to save money, a home gym is the way to go. The cost of a gym membership far exceeds what you would spend for a beginner home gym. And the perk about buying your own equipment is that you will have it for the life of that particular equipment.     3. Someone who is ok working out solo.

     

    If you are not looking for that social atmosphere that a gym membership typically guarantees, then working out at home should be absolutely fine for you. But if you are longing for interaction, accountability, mingling and just want to get out of your home, then you are probably best joining a gym if you can afford to do so.

    4. Those who want to work out and need to stay home with the kids.

     

    If you are a mom or dad who is home taking care of children all day, it’s usually best to have a home gym where you can either work out during nap time or maybe have your kids join alongside you in the exercise routine.

    5. Someone who works from home.

    If you work from home and just want to take a quick break from your home office, it’s easy to walk right on over to your home gym and slip in your workout in between work tasks.   

    6. Someone who is typically known for lack of commitment.

     

    If you are the kind of person who can’t commit to a workout routine, but so desperately wants to stay committed, I recommend you start with a home gym. After getting into a good groove and a steady workout routine for several months, then you’ll know if you are more likely to commit to a gym membership.

    Ok, so now you should probably have a better idea of whether or not you are ready to commit towards investing in a home gym. The great thing is, you can start small, on a budget, and eventually in time you can add to your gym collection. 

    Gym equipment makes for a great gift. If your family and friends are always wondering what they can get you for a present, suggest some of these great fitness gifts. Over time you’ll find that your home gym that started on budget no longer is a gym for beginners but a gym for the elite!

    1. Flooring – $11.69

    The best flooring option for a budget friendly home gym is clearly a basic yoga mat. This will get you started and at least give you some comfort when hitting the floor.

    2. Strengthening- $16.99

    There are hundreds of options out there for strengthening, but if you are strictly focused on building muscle on a budget, all you have to do is buy one set of resistance tubing which can also be known as resistance bands. These are so versatile and are just as effective if not more effective than free weights.

    3. Cardio – $6.89

    A treadmill right now is not a realistic choice if you are sticking to a budget. In time, save up for one, but for now, you can be creative with your cardio by doing YouTube workouts that are FREE on the internet! That’s a big win right there. But if you are looking for something with a little more substance, all you need right now is a jump rope! This is by far one of the best old school ways to get a great cardiovascular workout in. You can’t beat this price!

    4. Balance – $19.99

    Balance is extremely important if you want to be well rounded with your home workouts. Don’t neglect this area. It’s so easy to incorporate into your normal fitness routine when you have a balance disc. Perform all your squats, lunges and much more by simple standing on this. You’ll feel the difference immediately. 

    5. Stretching – $8.99

    If you haven’t tried a foam roller, then get ready to be wowed! These high density tubes are just the solution to rubbing out those sore muscles you’ll have after a series of intense workouts. Check out this awesome video on how to use a foam roller.
