I am not a flashy person in any way. If you saw me in person, I like to wear make-up, I like to do my hair on occasion, I typically wear what’s most comfortable for me, like a basic workout outfit, or jeans and comfortable top (that is easily accessible for nursing my baby). I don’t wear a lot of jewelry, however. I wear my wedding ring and on Sundays I pop in a pair of earings for church (not that anyone would see them because my hair is down and covering my ears.
So why don’t I wear more jewelry, even though I admire everyone else who has the most beautifully thought out necklace that coordinates perfectly with their outfit? I love the bracelets that have quotes, phrases, scripture or some kind of writing on it that means something special to that person wearing it.
I wear my wedding and engagement ring, as do most women who are married do on a daily basis. But I don’t wear other rings. Some day I hope to own more jewelry for those special events and the days where I want to look a bit fancier than my “at-home” attire.
Have Confidence In What You Wear
Women deserve to own nice jewelry. It can make you feel good and have confidence in the way you present yourself. Also, jewelry can be sentimental. A token of love and appreciation given to you by a loved one.
I’m all for jewelry.
Why am I talking so much about jewelry? Trust me, I’m NOT trying to sell you jewelry today!
I want to share with you our quote of the day:
“The most precious jewels you’ll ever have around your neck are the arms of your children.” -Unknown
At the stage of life I am in right now, I just can’t wear jewelry.
I don’t wear a lot jewelry for one main reason…
Why?
Because my kids will yank it off me and break it!!!!
Yep, that’s the main reason!
Jewelry and Little Children Do NOT Mix
When you have a 10 month old and a toddler, your jewelry is bound to get torn, yanked, ripped off and destroyed.
So with that said, I choose not to wear jewelry pinned to my ears or hanging off my neck for that matter.
And, it’s ok for me!
It’s not important to me to wear jewerly to look nice.
However, let’s take another look at the quote again…
“The most precious jewels you’ll ever have around your neck are the arms of your children.” -Unknown
I would so rather wear my children around my neck than a beautiful necklace. My children are my jewels. My children are what make me look good, not my sparkly earrings and matching necklace.
Take Pride In The Fact That Your Children Cling To You
I take pride in my children who are wrapped around me for hours on end. I will say, yes, my kids are lot heavier and exhaust me more than a light weight necklace, but my children will last my lifetime and a necklace may tarnish in a matter of months.
Your children bring lasting joy to your life, when your necklace only gives you a temporary moment of fulfillment. And your children are what fill your life with endless memories that a necklace cannot even compare to.
As I am nearing 7 years of maternity wear, breastfeeding attire and a “new-mom” wardrobe, I have practically had enough of the items that are in my closet and I am soooooo ready to get them out of my house for good.
I am so excited for the time when I can choose my outfit, accessories and all, and not have to think about getting my kids’ stains all over them or my child pulling every fine thread from my chunky woven sweater.
But until that time comes, I will cherish these moments when my children want to be held, screaming “Mommy, hold me” countless times and just hold them tightly around my body knowing that they are the one jewel that I will forever treasure the most.
Keep Smiling,
Dr. Jena Bradley, DPT
